Brunch in Barcelona's old town and Poblenou: 9 spots

· · 6 min read

This follows on from my Barcelona coffee shop guide: where to have breakfast and a long brunch in the old town, around Arc de Triomf and on towards the sea in Poblenou, plus a few coffee shops that didn't make the first list. All the places are from my list of saved spots, and the descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews.

In short

  • Best brunch: Little Fern in Poblenou, where the French toast is the star.
  • Vegan breakfast: bohl near Arc de Triomf, with bowls, porridge and tofu scramble.
  • Late: LULU & FLYN in El Born stays open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, with cocktails in the evening.
  • A quiet coffee: Warung Cafè and Mono Cafè in Poblenou.
  • A taste of Eastern Europe: the Ukrainian Bulka Bakery, with fresh bread and Napoleon cake.

Right Side Coffee Bar

Barri Gòtic · café · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 9:00–17:00, Sat–Sun 10:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de l'Arc de Sant Ramon del Call, 11

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 3,000+): a specialty café roasting its own beans, tucked away in the lanes of El Call. The coffee is fruity and balanced, coffee geeks can order a V60 flight, and the sandwiches get praise too. There's plenty of seating for the old town, but no Wi-Fi: better for reading or meeting friends.

LULU & FLYN

El Born · brunch café · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Sun–Thu 9:00–21:00, Fri–Sat 9:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · Av. del Marquès de l'Argentera, 7

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 1,200+): a relaxed boho café with bowls, avocado toast with salmon, bagels, croissants and a gluten-free banana cake, and cocktails in the evening. Dogs welcome. A reliable spot for the neighbourhood, though the lattes are big and the sourdough bagel is awkward to cut.

bohl

by Arc de Triomf · vegan breakfast · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Wed 9:00–16:00, Thu–Fri 9:00–19:00, Sat 10:00–19:00, Sun 10:00–16:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Trafalgar, 47

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 860+): a small vegan café with bowls, smoothie bowls, porridge, tostadas and tofu scramble. Some visitors come every day to work through the menu; the miso stew gets a special mention. Fair prices, friendly staff, and laptops are fine within the café's rules.

LOT ROASTERS

by Arc de Triomf · café and chocolate · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · daily 9:00–18:00, Thu and Sat–Sun from 10:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Bailèn, 43

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 770+): a minimal, raw-looking café that smells of chocolate baking. Beyond the coffee, reviewers love the oat-milk cacao latte, the mocha and the iced cacao with Earl Grey, plus the desserts. Seating isn't very comfortable, and the staff aren't always keen to explain the desserts.

Poblenou

LITTLE FERN

Poblenou · brunch café · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · daily 9:00–16:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Pere IV, 168

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 2,900+): New Zealand–style brunch with lots of vegan dishes and real attention to detail. The star is the French toast; reviewers also love the banana bread, eggs Benedict with turmeric hollandaise and oyster mushrooms, shakshuka and vegan kimchi pancakes. It gets busy, so come for a late brunch if you want a slower pace.

T.44 - TAULAT 44

Poblenou · brunch café · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · daily 9:00–19:00
Google Maps · Carrer del Taulat, 44

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,400+): a minimal but cosy café away from the tourist crowds, where locals have breakfast, study and work. Reviewers praise the avocado toast, omelette, Korean fried chicken sando and above all the cinnamon roll and banana bread; each order comes with a fortune cookie. Prices are on the high side, and there's often a wait.

Mono Cafè

Poblenou · café · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 8:00–19:30, Sat–Sun 9:00–16:00
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer de Pujades, 134

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 730+): a bright, spacious minimalist café with seating for one or for a group and a small terrace. Reviewers praise the coffee, batch brew, matcha and the skilled barista. Not everyone likes the desserts, and there's only one espresso bean on offer.

Warung Cafè

Sant Martí · café · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 8:30–17:00, Sat 10:00–14:00, closed Sun
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer de Sardenya, 116

According to Google Maps reviews (4.9 from 260+): a specialty café where, unlike many, you can actually sit down to read or talk, with comfortable seating and open doors. Reviewers praise the cappuccino, flat white, cortado and batch brew, the pastries and the friendly baristas. The milk is sometimes steamed too hot.

Bulka Bakery

Sant Martí · Ukrainian bakery · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Tue–Fri 9:00–14:00 and 16:30–19:30, Sat 10:00–15:00, closed Sun–Mon
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer del Coronel Sanfeliu, 10

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 220+): a Ukrainian bakery with many kinds of fresh bread, pastries, Napoleon cake and good coffee; the pistachio cream roll gets praise. Downsides: several visitors complain about skimpy fillings and pastry tubes that are almost empty, which feels poor at these prices.

One last thing

Brunch here is a daytime thing: Little Fern closes at 16:00 and has a queue at weekends, so come at opening time. Bulka Bakery is closed on Sunday and Monday, and on weekdays it takes a break from 14:00 to 16:30.
