Best coffee shops in Barcelona: 9 in the centre and Sarrià

· · 7 min read

Barcelona is a city of good specialty coffee, but the best places are spread across neighbourhoods, and each has its own. These are coffee shops I go to myself in the centre, Eixample and Sant Antoni, plus a couple in Sarrià and Sant Gervasi and one I haven't made it to yet. Some are for meeting friends, some for working on a laptop, some for grabbing a coffee on a walk.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 30 September 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.13.

In short

  • For working with a laptop: SAGA Coffee Stories (from 7:00, comfortable furniture) and Three Marks Coffee (upstairs).
  • The best coffee, but hardly anywhere to sit: D Origen Coffee Roasters.
  • Takeaway only: Dalston Coffee and Onyva Coffee Sarrià.
  • To meet someone or read: Paradero by Mercat de Sant Antoni, with fresh juices and a full menu.
  • Not for working, but for the mood: Usagui Cafe (Japanese matcha, afternoons only).

Centre, Eixample and Sant Antoni

SAGA Coffee Stories

Eixample · coffee shop · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 7:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 8:00–20:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Casp, 70

A great place: it opens early, you can work here, and there's food. Probably one of the most comfortable — their furniture is really nice. It's central, with a big choice of everything. All in all, it gets my recommendation.

Three Marks Coffee

Eixample, Fort Pienc · coffee shop · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · daily 8:00–19:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer d'Ausiàs Marc, 151

An absolute cult place, and I adore their coffee. The guys are doing a brilliant job, and I think a whole community has grown up around them. There are loads of tables outside where you can stop, have a coffee and read the paper, or you can go upstairs and work with a laptop. I adore their pain au chocolat — it's the most delicious thing in the world.

D Origen Coffee Roasters

Eixample · coffee shop & roastery · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Sat 8:30–20:00, closed Sun
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Casp, 48

One of the best coffee shops in the city. There aren't many seats, but the pastries are amazing and so is the choice of coffee — it's in a lot of guides. I highly recommend it. A super place.

Nomad Cafè Petit Nomad

Eixample, by Plaça de Catalunya · coffee shop · Mon–Fri 8:00–16:00, Sat 9:00–17:00, closed Sun
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Bergara, 10

A small spot to grab a coffee if you're near Universitat metro, in El Raval or around Plaça de Catalunya. A good place: not much room, but very friendly staff and great coffee — which, honestly, isn't that easy to find in this area.

Dalston Coffee

El Raval · takeaway coffee & roastery · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 8:00–19:00, Sat–Sun 9:30–18:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de les Ramelleres, 16

A tiny coffee shop in El Raval with a really great choice of coffee. I used to drop in here a lot in the mornings. Wonderful staff, good filter coffee, very reasonable prices, and croissants to go with your coffee. Bear in mind it's takeaway only — there's nowhere to sit. You can also pick up everything for making coffee at home: beans from their own roast and brewing gear like an AeroPress. If you're passing by and fancy a coffee, don't miss it.

Paradero

Sant Antoni · coffee shop & brunch · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Fri 9:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 9:30–20:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer del Comte Borrell, 107

A super coffee shop in a very green neighbourhood by Mercat de Sant Antoni. It's a lovely place to sit. There's espresso, fresh juices and a full menu, so you can have a proper meal. The neighbourhood is great, and so is the coffee shop. If you're walking by, looking for somewhere to meet someone or read a book, this is the place.

Sarrià and Sant Gervasi

Onyva Coffee Sarrià

Sarrià · coffee shop & roastery · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Mon–Fri 8:00–20:00, Sat 9:00–20:00, Sun 9:00–14:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Cornet i Mas, 9

A really great place in Sarrià. There aren't many tables and you won't get any laptop work done here, but it's perfect if you've come out to Sarrià for a walk: pop in, grab a coffee and keep strolling. Onyva is expanding fast, and in other neighbourhoods they have coffee shops that are just as good:

  • Onyva House (brunch) — Sarrià, Carrer del Pedró de la Creu, 34
  • Galvany — Sant Gervasi – Galvany, Carrer d'Amigó, 25
  • Sant Gervasi — Sant Gervasi, Carrer de la Ciutat de Balaguer, 45
  • Farró — El Farró, Carrer de Vallirana, 83
  • Gràcia — Gràcia, Carrer de Verdi, 4
  • Balmes — Eixample, Carrer de Balmes, 50
  • x House of Candy — Eixample, Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 620
  • Les Corts — Les Corts, Carrer de Cabestany, 15
  • Diagonal — Les Corts, Av. Diagonal, 515
  • Numància — Les Corts, Carrer Numància, 47

Usagui Cafe

Sant Gervasi · Japanese café · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Wed–Sat 13:30–20:30, Sun 16:00–20:30, closed Mon–Tue
Google Maps · Carrer de les Santjoanistes, 28

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 1,700+): a small Japanese café on a mezzanine floor that's easy to walk past. The main thing here is matcha in every form: drinks, matcha cake, plus soufflé cheesecake, kakigori (shaved ice), melon pan and melon soda; there's also Japanese lunch food, such as miso soup. The presentation is very cute, the service is warm and the atmosphere is calm: good for a date or a small group in the afternoon. The downsides: the tables are packed close together, there's no Wi-Fi, and there isn't much for vegetarians. It only opens in the afternoon.

If you venture further

Kefir Coffee & Bakery

Sant Andreu · coffee shop & bakery · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Tue–Sun 8:00–20:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · Carrer de Berenguer de Palou, 71

I haven't been here myself yet — but it's on my list, and here's what people say about it.

According to Google reviews (4.8 from 470): a neighbourhood coffee shop for a slow breakfast. People praise the specialty coffee (the batch brew is said to beat many dedicated coffee shops), the fresh pastries — especially the banana bread — the sandwiches and the masala chai latte. The staff and the owner are very welcoming, the atmosphere is cosy and quiet, and for this quality the prices are very reasonable. The downside: sometimes you have to wait for a table.

One last thing

Some coffee shops here are closed on Sunday (D Origen, Petit Nomad), and Petit Nomad shuts at 16:00 on weekdays. If you're planning a working day, start the morning at SAGA, which opens at 7:00, then move to Three Marks after lunch: it's open daily until 19:00.
