There are tapas on every corner in Barcelona, but the most honest neighbourhood bars are away from the Rambla: in the Eixample and Sant Antoni, Gràcia, Sarrià, Sants and on Montjuïc. This is a selection from my list of saved places where locals eat. The old-town bars are in the main tapas list. The descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews, and I'll add my own notes as I visit.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 30 September 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.13.

Eixample and Sant Antoni

Bar Canyí
Sant Antoni · tapas bar · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · Tue–Sat 12:00–23:00, closed Sunday and Monday
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer de Sepúlveda, 107
According to Google Maps reviews (4.1 from 700+): a local tapas bar with lots of Spaniards and few tourists. The best move, guests say, is to tell the chef you eat everything and let him put together a selection. People praise the mussels, meatballs, jamón croquetas, bomba, squid sandwich and the burger. The downsides: a lot of dishes come with a mayo-based sauce, and getting by in English can be tricky. It's almost empty at lunchtime.
Piparra Bar
Eixample, Sant Joan · tapas bar · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · Mon–Fri 9:00–0:00, Sat 10:00–0:00, Sun 12:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · Carrer del Consell de Cent, 429
According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 220): a neighbourhood tapas bar with a good atmosphere. People recommend the truffle cheese, the croquetas, the porchetta bikini, the tagliata and the chilled Altaroses red. Good prices and fast, friendly service; they'll even help you practise your Spanish.
Gràcia and Sant Gervasi
Bar L'Amistat
Gràcia · tapas bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · hours to be checked, Google doesn't list them
Google Maps · Carrer de Ramón y Cajal, 58 / Carrer de Torrijos, 13
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 870+): a small corner bar in Gràcia with stone walls, vermouth and tapas. Cheap drinks, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a focaccia sandwich and beer deal for 10 €. Friendly staff and good music; there aren't many seats, but you can sit at the bar. Open late.
Bar la Camila
Gràcia · neighbourhood café-bar · 1–10 € (≈$1–11) · Tue–Fri 8:00–21:00, Sat 9:00–21:00, Mon and Sun 8:00–16:00
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer de Banyoles, 11
According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 580+): a simple neighbourhood spot in Gràcia with local regulars. People praise the freshly ground and filter coffee and the Catalan breakfast: a bocadillo, and toast with chocolate, olive oil and salt. Small and cosy. Be aware: laptops aren't allowed at the tables, nor are photos, and the menu is in Spanish only. In summer it's hot and dark inside, and by weekend evenings part of the menu has run out.
Bar Bocata
Sant Gervasi, near Gràcia · tapas bar · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · lunch 12:00–17:30, dinner Tue–Sat 19:00–0:30, Sun 13:00–16:00
Google Maps · website · Travessera de Gràcia, 86
According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 2,600+): a tapas bar that many say makes one of the best tortillas in the city. People also recommend the macaroni, the cannelloni and a simple tomato salad. Very attentive service: they bring you olives, suggest wines and help with gluten-free dishes. Book ahead; the room is small and cramped, and you can't hold on to a table for long.
Sarrià
Bar El Tomàs de Sarrià
Sarrià · tapas bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Sat 12:30–16:00 and 18:30–22:00, closed Sunday
Google Maps · website · Carrer Major de Sarrià, 49
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 7,300+): a city classic that people travel to for the patatas bravas, which many call the best in Barcelona. The secret is the sauce with garlic mayo: if you love that, this is your place. The atmosphere is authentic and loud, the crowd is local, and the beer is on draught. It's busy, so don't expect to linger.
Sants and Montjuïc

Vermut i a la Gàbia
Sants · vermouth bar & tapas · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · daily 12:00–0:30, Fri–Sat until 1:30
Google Maps · Facebook · Plaça d'Osca, 7
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 1,400+): a family-run tapas bar on Plaça d'Osca, one of the liveliest squares in Sants. Vermouth (regular and bianco), patatas bravas that many call their favourite, pan con tomate, bomba and croquetas. Good prices and very friendly staff, who'll put tables together even for a big group. In the evening you can wait around an hour for a table.
La Font del Gat
Montjuïc · grill & tapas in a garden · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · daily from 12:00–13:00 until 23:00–1:00
Google Maps · website · Passeig de Santa Madrona, 28
According to Google Maps reviews (4.1 from 700+): a restaurant tucked away in a garden on the slopes of Montjuïc, with a stylish terrace, a big garden, often a DJ, and pétanque to play. Catalan food from the grill, classic tapas and huge pans of rice for sharing. You're mostly paying for the setting: many find the portions small for the price, and you order at the counter. It's about a kilometre uphill on foot from the metro.
Bar Marcelino
Montjuïc · café-bar with a view · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Thu 9:00–20:00, Fri–Sun 10:30–21:00
Google Maps · Avinguda Miramar, 11
According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 880): an open-air café on the slopes of Montjuïc with views over the city and the Sagrada Família, a favourite break after a walk on the hill. Good coffee, cold beer, the house "Marcelino" bocadillo with crispy pork, and a plate of hummus for vegans. It's popular with locals, so seats can be scarce; the staff draw the occasional complaint.
One last thing
Neighbourhood bars keep their own hours: Bar El Tomàs closes between lunch and dinner and on Sundays, Bar Canyí is closed on Sundays and Mondays, and Bar Marcelino on Montjuïc only stays open until 20:00–21:00. Plan bravas with a view for lunch rather than a late dinner.
More on Barcelona: tapas bars in the old town.
