Japanese Barcelona is more than sushi rolls: there are Michelin-listed omakase counters, izakayas run by Japanese couples, ramen and even a Japanese grocery. This is a selection from my list of saved places, and the descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews. The Chinese, Korean, Thai and Indian places are in a separate piece on Asian restaurants, and the sushi bars I already covered in my piece on world food in Barcelona aren't repeated here.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 30 September 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.13.
In short
- Best omakase: SUTO in Sants and Fukamura in Gràcia. From 100 € a head, so it's a special-occasion dinner.
- One street, two Japanese spots: Carrer de Violant d'Hongria Reina d'Aragó in Sants has SUTO and the JAPOTAPA izakaya.
- Ramen: Shoronpo GRACIA, with the kitchen open all day.
- Cheap sushi: Hiraya in Fort Pienc, 10–20 €.
- Japanese groceries to take home: Tokyo-ya in Sant Gervasi.
Omakase and high-end Japanese
SUTO barcelona
Sants · omakase · 100 €+ ($113+) · Tue 20:00–0:00; Wed & Fri 13:30–16:00 and 20:00–0:00; Thu & Sat 13:30–16:00; closed Sun–Mon
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Violant d'Hongria Reina d'Aragó, 134
According to Google Maps reviews (4.9 from 320+): an omakase that diners who have eaten their way around Japan rank alongside the best they had there; it's listed in the Michelin guide. Reviewers praise the freshness of the fish, the precision, the temperature control and the pacing, plus the warm chef and team and well-chosen wine. There are hardly any complaints beyond the price and the handful of services a week.
Fukamura
Gràcia · omakase & sushi · 100 €+ ($113+) · Tue–Sat 19:30–23:00 (Fri to 22:00), Sun 13:00–15:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Còrsega, 479
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 1,300+): an intimate counter for just a few guests, where you actually talk to the chef. Very fresh fish, careful work without the showmanship, a good sake collection and pairings. Some find the prices reasonable compared with similar places in the centre.
ryushio
Sant Gervasi · sushi & omakase · 20–80 € (≈$23–90) · daily 13:00–16:30 and 20:00–23:30 (Fri–Sat to 0:30)
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Santaló, 88
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 290+): you can order rolls à la carte or go for a 17-course omakase. From the omakase, reviewers single out toro aged with kombu, steamed octopus and red prawn; from the menu, the uramaki. Calm atmosphere, pleasant lighting, attentive service.
Robata
Eixample · sushi & Japanese grill · 30–90 € (≈$34–100) · daily 13:30–0:00 (Fri–Sat 13:00–1:00)
Google Maps · website · Carrer d'Enric Granados, 55
According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 9,100): the best-known place on this list, a stylish restaurant on Enric Granados serving sushi and robata grill dishes. Reviewers like the grill, the truffled edamame, the seafood okonomiyaki and the tasting menu; the menu is short, but the produce is fresh. Opinions on the sushi are split (some find it basic), and the service draws complaints more often than you'd like.
Everyday Japanese
JAPOTAPA じゃぽたぱ
Sants · izakaya · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · Tue–Fri 19:00–23:00, Sat 13:00–16:00 and 19:30–23:00, Sun 13:00–16:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · Instagram · Carrer de Violant d'Hongria Reina d'Aragó, 176
According to Google Maps reviews (4.9 from 200+): a small izakaya run by a Japanese couple; the owner is from Nara. Diners say it feels like eating in Japan: they praise the croquettes, the gyoza in curry with cheese, the ebi tempura and the meat with vegetables and egg (rice not included). The two of them do everything, so expect to wait a little for your food.
KIWAMI
Eixample · sushi & Japanese · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · Tue–Sun 12:30–16:00 and 20:00–23:30, closed Mon
Google Maps · Passatge de Vilaret, 54
According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 570+): a cosy restaurant with very fresh sushi and beautiful plating; some visitors came back three nights out of four in the city. Reviewers praise the beef sushi, salmon tataki, gyoza, chicken teriyaki, miso soup, dorayaki and green tea mochi. Downsides: few vegetarian options, and the pad thai is untypical, closer to a glass-noodle dish.
Hiraya
Fort Pienc · sushi & rolls · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · lunch 13:00–16:00 and dinner 20:00–23:30; Wed lunch only; Sat 12:00–17:30 and 19:30–23:30; Sun 12:00–17:30
Google Maps · Facebook · Carrer d'Ausiàs Marc, 127
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 610+): an affordable spot for filling American-Japanese-style rolls with fresh tuna and salmon and a good sauce. The staff happily recommend dishes; try the sake. Downsides: cold blue lighting in the back room, stuffy on hot days, and the food isn't traditional Japanese.
Shoronpo GRACIA
Gràcia · ramen & dumplings · 20–30 € (≈$23–34) · daily 13:00–22:30
Google Maps · website · Carrer del Dr. Rizal, 20
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 2,100+): one of the most popular ramen spots in town. Reviewers praise the rich broth and noodles, the thin-skinned gyoza and the shoronpo (soup dumplings, including a foie gras version). Some find the meat in the ramen weaker than the rest and the karaage ordinary. It can be loud, wine is pricey, and the service sometimes comes across as unfriendly.
Keanu Izakaya Bar
Eixample · izakaya & cocktail bar · 20–70 € (≈$23–79) · Wed 18:00–0:00, Thu 18:00–1:00, Fri–Sat 18:00–2:00, closed Sun–Tue
Google Maps · website · Carrer de París, 209
According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 550+): more a night-out bar than a restaurant, with signature cocktails, a DJ from around 21:00, rolls and small plates such as gyoza with tom yum sauce. Plenty of reviewers admit they come for the atmosphere and cocktails, and the sushi is just decent. On the pricey side, with small portions for the money.
Tokyo-ya
Sant Gervasi · Japanese grocery · Mon–Sat 10:30–14:30 and 17:00–20:00, closed Sun
Google Maps · website · Carrer de Balmes, 197
According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 460+): a small Japanese import shop with rice, instant ramen, sweets, snacks, drinks, natto and some ceramics and kitchenware. The konbini-style ready food gets special praise: bento, onigiri, sushi and sandwiches. Friendly staff, and the Asahi is very cheap.
One last thing
The Japanese places here keep Spanish hours: lunch until 16:00, a break, dinner from 20:00. On Mondays SUTO, Fukamura, JAPOTAPA and KIWAMI are closed. If you want to eat at five in the afternoon or on a Monday, go to Shoronpo GRACIA or Robata, where the kitchen runs all day.
