Coffee and breakfast in Warsaw: 7 cafés and breakfast spots

· · 5 min read

Coffee in Warsaw is concentrated in Śródmieście: on Hoża, Wilcza and around Plac Zbawiciela there's a café every few doors. My saved list had no cafés of its own; Bułkę przez Bibułkę and Coffeedesk used to sit in the food article and have moved here, and I added five more places on the advice of travel guides, 34travel first of all, and specialty-coffee guides. Each one is checked on Google: still open, rated 4.2 or higher. The descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews; I haven't added my own notes yet.

In short

  • Breakfast in the centre: Bułkę przez Bibułkę — omelettes, prosecco on Sundays, a weekend queue of up to 20 minutes.
  • Coffee for its own sake: Coffeedesk on Wilcza, Cafe Central on Hoża and Ministry of Coffee by Plac Zbawiciela.
  • Vegan baking: eter on Hoża — cakes, tarts and brioches that even non-vegans rave about.
  • Books and a park view: Kafka in Powiśle, a library café with big windows, open until 22:00.
  • Morning to night: Charlotte on Plac Zbawiciela — croissants in the morning, wine in the evening; no bookings.

Breakfast

Bułkę przez Bibułkę

Śródmieście · all-day breakfast · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Fri 7:30–23:00, Sat 8:00–23:00, Sun 8:00–22:00
Google Maps · website · Zgoda 3/5

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 8,500+): a popular breakfast place right in the centre, with omelettes, eggs with bacon, roast potatoes, fresh bread and a glass of prosecco on Sundays. Reviewers praise the very fast service, friendly staff and fair prices. At weekends there's a queue outside, but usually no longer than 20 minutes. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Coffeedesk Kawiarnia - Wilcza

Śródmieście · specialty coffee · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Fri 7:30–20:00, Sat 9:00–20:00, Sun 10:00–20:00
Google Maps · website · Wilcza 42

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 2,900+): a café attached to a roaster and coffee-gear shop selling beans, grinders, filters and AeroPresses. Reviewers praise the espresso, filter brewed from beans you've just bought, huge fresh croissants and sandwiches; orders are tracked with little plastic animals. Good for working on a laptop. Some found the flat white too milky. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Charlotte plac Zbawiciela

Plac Zbawiciela · French bistro and bakery · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Thu 7:00–0:00, Fri 7:00–1:00, Sat 8:00–1:00, Sun 8:00–20:00
Google Maps · website · Al. Wyzwolenia 18

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 7,000+): a bistro with its own bakery on Warsaw's most fashionable square, open from 7 am until late at night. Reviewers praise the croissants and pain au chocolat, the French toast with lemon cream, buttered toast and the flat white — one guest called it among the best in town. No bookings, so expect a short wait. Downside: the staff can't keep up, and tables may not get cleared.

Cafe Kafka

Powiśle · library café · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Fri 9:00–22:00, Sat–Sun 9:30–22:00
Google Maps · website · Oboźna 3

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 3,400+): a café for book people — shelves of books to buy or swap and huge windows onto a park. Reviewers praise the big English breakfast (frankfurters instead of pork sausages), fresh orange juice and the English menu. Downsides: it's self-service yet adds a service charge, there's no longer Wi-Fi or a laptop area, breakfast stops at noon, and one cappuccino came out more like a café au lait. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Specialty coffee

Kawiarnia Cafe Central Hoża

Śródmieście · specialty coffee · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Fri 7:30–18:00, Sat–Sun 9:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · Hoża 58/60

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 830+): a small café ten minutes' walk from Warszawa Centralna, with a few pavement tables under the trees and coffee posters behind the bar. Single-origin beans are sold to take home. Reviewers praise the oat flat white, the espresso tonic and the cappuccino. Downsides: there's hardly any room inside, pastries sell out by midday, and one guest found the americano burnt.

eter — vegan bakery & speciality coffee

Śródmieście · vegan bakery and café · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Fri 8:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 9:00–20:00
Google Maps · website · Hoża 5/7

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 1,200+): a vegan bakery on a side street near the centre, with plants and a slightly vintage interior. Cakes, tarts, strawberry brioche, cinnamon buns, bagels with vegan cottage cheese and sandwiches (the Gucci sandwich gets a mention); the coffee and rose matcha are good too. Many call these the best desserts they've ever had and come back every day of their trip. Downside: it's not cheap, and some found individual pastries ordinary.

Ministry of Coffee

Plac Zbawiciela · specialty coffee · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Fri 8:00–20:30, Sat–Sun 8:30–20:30
Google Maps · website · Marszałkowska 27/35

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 2,400+): a cult coffee shop near Plac Zbawiciela with pavement seating. Professional baristas, flat white and espresso tonic, batch-brew and pour-over filter, and Gardelli beans, rare for Warsaw; with your coffee, a cardamom bun, and drinks in the evening. The crowd is students and young professionals with laptops. Downside: prices are above the city average.

One last thing

Hoża is a ready-made coffee route: eter at the top of the street, Bar Bambino halfway along (if you fancy a Polish lunch) and Cafe Central towards Emilii Plater. Just note that Cafe Central closes at 18:00 — go there first.
