Warsaw was almost entirely destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt, and Polish food here means milk bars and homely canteens first of all. One place, The Cool Cat, comes from my own list of saved spots; the other six are recommended by travel guides, 34travel first of all. Breakfast and coffee now have their own article. The descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews; I haven't added my own notes yet.
Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 7 October 2026. Rate: 1 zł ≈ $0.26.
In short
- Cheap Polish food: Prasowy (a milk bar) and Pyzy Flaki Gorące in Praga, lunch for 20–40 zł.
- A milk bar with an English menu: Bar Bambino on Hoża — a tray, pierogi and soup for pocket change.
- A Polish dinner: Stary Dom on Puławska — tartare made at the table and pork knuckle; 10% is added to the bill.
- All under one roof: Hala Koszyki, dozens of restaurants and bars in an old market hall, open until 1:00.
Where to eat

Bar Mleczny Prasowy
Śródmieście · Polish food, milk bar · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · daily 8:00–20:00
Google Maps · website · Marszałkowska 10
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 5,900+): one of Warsaw's best-known milk bars, a communist-era canteen with modern touches. You order at kiosks with menus in several languages, and your order number is on the receipt. Reviewers praise the cucumber salad, chicken meatballs, potato pancakes with mushroom sauce and pierogi, and above all the prices, which are hard to beat. Plenty of young people eat here too. 34travel recommends it too (article).
Pyzy Flaki Gorące
Praga · Polish food · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Sat 12:00–22:00, Sun until 21:00
Google Maps · website · Brzeska 29/31
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 5,600+): a cosy, homely eatery in Praga where everything comes in square glass jars. The star is pyzy, potato dumplings filled with meat and topped with crispy bacon and fried onion; the żurek rye soup gets praise too. Portions look small but fill you up, and prices are very low. It's full of locals, and there can be a queue outside. 34travel recommends it too (article).
Hala Koszyki
Śródmieście · food hall · 40–120 zł (≈$10–31) · daily 8:00–1:00
Google Maps · website · Koszykowa 63
According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 24,000+): a restored early 20th-century market hall now holding dozens of restaurants, bars and shops. Burgers and pizza, seafood, Asian food and cocktails at the central bar: handy when a group can't agree. It works for dinner or just an evening out. The downside: some counters are slow even at quiet times. 34travel recommends it too (article).
The Cool Cat TR
Śródmieście · Asian food · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Thu 10:00–22:00, Fri–Sat until 23:00, Sun until 21:00
Google Maps · Facebook · Marszałkowska 8
According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 1,500+): a café leaning Asian, mostly Korean, with a garden out back. Reviewers praise the crispy Korean fried chicken, congee, tofu bao, spiced fries and an iced lychee-calamansi tea. Generous portions, reasonable prices, lots of vegetarian options and craft beer. One guest found the bao merely ordinary.
alewino
Śródmieście · restaurant & wine bar · from 200 zł (≈$52) · Mon 17:00–23:00, Tue–Sat 13:00–23:00, closed Sun
Google Maps · website · Mokotowska 48
According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,600+): an intimate restaurant with seasonal cooking and more than 250 wines. There's no standard wine list: you choose with the sommelier, and guests praise the food pairings. The entrance is hard to find, through a car park, but the courtyard is lovely in summer. It's the priciest place in this guide, and reviews say the cooking can be uneven; some found the dishes bland. 34travel recommends it too (article).
Bar Bambino
Śródmieście · milk bar · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Fri 8:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 9:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · Hoża 19
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 5,700+): a long-standing classic milk bar — grab a tray and order home-style Polish food at very low prices. Reviewers praise the pierogi, the pork chop and the soups; the wall menu is also in English (if a dish has no price next to it, it's off today). Portions are modest, there's a queue at lunch, and the locals don't like it when you take ages to choose.
Stary Dom
Mokotów · Polish restaurant · daily 12:00–23:30
Google Maps · website · Puławska 104/106
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 11,000+): a cosy restaurant with a high wooden ceiling and panelling, elegant yet homely. Reviewers praise the steak tartare made at your table, herring, lard with bread and pickles, beef cheeks, venison, pierogi, gołąbki and pork knuckle, with meringue cake for dessert and honey beer on the side. Downside: a 10% service charge is added to the bill automatically.
One last thing
At the Prasowy milk bar you order at kiosks with menus in several languages, so no Polish needed. alewino is the opposite end: the most expensive place here (from 200 zł), and closed on Sundays.
