Best bars in Lisbon: 11 places by area

· · 7 min read

Evenings in Lisbon are for a shot of ginjinha, cocktails, craft beer and natural wine. This is a selection from my list of saved places; I added A Capela, Toca da Raposa, Noobai and A Ginjinha on the advice of travel guides and blogs. The descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews, and I'll add my own notes as I visit.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 1 October 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.13.

In short

  • Cocktails: Toca da Raposa in Chiado and The Royal Vessel bar in Príncipe Real.
  • A Lisbon classic: a shot of ginjinha at A Ginjinha by Rossio for a couple of euros.
  • One street, two bars: Rua Nova do Carvalho in Cais do Sodré, with Pensão Amor and Collect.
  • Sunset: the Noobai terrace below Miradouro de Santa Catarina.
  • Dancing: A Capela in Bairro Alto, house and techno until 3:00.

Cais do Sodré

Pensão Amor

Cais do Sodré · cocktail bar · 10–35 € (≈$11–40) · Sun–Wed 17:00–3:00, Thu–Sat 17:00–4:00
Google Maps · website · Rua Nova do Carvalho, 38

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 6,100+): a bar that opened in 2011 in a former brothel. Many call its theatrical, slightly decadent interior one of the most distinctive in the city, and reviewers even tell you to check out the toilets. It gets crowded after 23:00. The downsides: cocktails cost more than average and are mostly classics, service is patchy, and there are serious complaints about the door staff.

Collect - Food . Radio . Records

Cais do Sodré · bar, vinyl and burgers · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Sun–Thu 12:00–2:00, Fri–Sat 12:00–3:00
Google Maps · website · Rua Nova do Carvalho, 60–62

According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 1,400+): a bar and record shop on the same Rua Nova do Carvalho, with vinyl everywhere and a custom sound system and DJs upstairs. The smash burger, cocktails and wine get praise, and a narrow window ledge works as a balcony for a quiet glass. The fries with the burger are more like bagged crisps. A very friendly dog lives upstairs.

Papoila Bar

Cais do Sodré · cocktail bar · 10–15 € (≈$11–17) · Mon 18:00–23:30, Wed–Thu 18:00–0:00, Fri–Sat 18:00–2:00, closed Tue and Sun
Google Maps · Instagram · Avenida 24 de Julho, 10

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 300): a small cocktail bar with a terrace next to the EDP building, in a quiet spot. A short menu of signature cocktails, alcohol-free ones made with the same care, draught beer and snacks. It's tiny inside, but they hand out blankets on the terrace, and dogs are welcome. People even gather here to watch Eurovision.

Bairro Alto, Chiado and Príncipe Real

A Capela

Bairro Alto · DJ bar · Sun–Thu 19:30–2:00, Fri–Sat 19:30–3:00
Google Maps · Facebook · Rua da Atalaia, 45

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 240+): a small red-walled bar where DJs play house, techno and classics on vinyl through a seriously good sound system. The dance floor is tiny and fills up fast, so come early. Friendly crowd and bartenders, no attitude; drinks cost a bit more than elsewhere on the street. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Toca da Raposa

Chiado · cocktail bar · 10–35 € (≈$11–40) · daily 18:00–2:00
Google Maps · website · Rua da Condessa, 45

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,000+): a dark, intimate craft cocktail bar that many consider the best in Lisbon. A minimalist menu where every drink is named after an animal (including house takes on an old fashioned and a negroni), and your server may pull up a chair to help you choose. Great for a date. Not every cocktail is perfect, but the team clearly experiments a lot.

Noobai

Santa Catarina · bar-restaurant with a terrace · 10–30 € (≈$11–34) · daily 12:00–0:00
Google Maps · Miradouro de Santa Catarina

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 4,000+): a terrace below Miradouro de Santa Catarina looking over the Tejo and the old town, a place for sunset with fairly priced sangria or beer. On the food side, the octopus, salt cod croquettes and feta and beetroot salad get praise. Not everyone stays for dinner: there are complaints about slow and sometimes rude service and a few overpriced items. 34travel recommends it too (article).

The Royal Vessel bar

Príncipe Real · cocktail bar · 10–30 € (≈$11–34) · daily 18:00–2:00
Google Maps · Instagram · Rua Ruben A. Leitão, 23

According to Google Maps reviews (4.9 from 320+): a 1920s–30s-style cocktail bar with ship and pirate touches; some compare it to a good escape room. A short menu in a red book, well-made cocktails and mocktails, and bartenders who help you choose and are happy to chat; sometimes there's live music. Prices, reviewers say, are reasonable.

Baixa and Alfama

A Ginjinha

Baixa · ginjinha bar · 1–5 € (≈$1–6) · daily 10:00–22:00
Google Maps · website · Largo de São Domingos, 8

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 3,600+): a tiny historic counter by Rossio pouring ginjinha, a sweet, slightly tart sour-cherry liqueur. They'll ask whether you want cherries in the glass; you drink it out on the street. It costs next to nothing; bring cash, as reviewers say there's no card machine. Sometimes it comes in a chocolate cup.

Crafty Corner

Alfama · craft beer · 5–25 € (≈$6–28) · Sun–Thu 11:30–0:00, Fri–Sat 11:30–0:30
Google Maps · website · Rua de São João da Praça, 95

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,600+): a cosy bar near the Sé with a good range of Portuguese craft beer (IPAs, sours) and cider, which is rare in Lisbon. Tasty snacks, vegan dishes and sangria; the music leaves room for conversation, and a duo plays rock covers on Friday nights. Craft beer costs more than regular beer here, as everywhere.

Graça and Anjos

Locals & Nomads

Graça · natural wine bar and shop · 5–20 € (≈$6–23) · Mon–Fri 16:00–23:00, Sat–Sun 14:00–23:00
Google Maps · website · Travessa do Monte, 1

According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 300+): a small natural wine bar and shop at the bottom of the street, good for people-watching. The sommelier and owners help you pick a glass (the orange wines get praise), with lemon sardines on buttered bread, cheese, anchovies and chips with a house sauce. Quiet and neighbourly.

Sputnik Craft Beer

Anjos · craft beer bar · 5–30 € (≈$6–34) · Mon–Fri 17:00–0:00, Sat–Sun 15:00–0:00
Google Maps · Instagram · Rua Andrade, 41A

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 700+): a neighbourhood craft beer bar with lots of taps from different countries and alcohol-free options. Free table football, a sidewalk terrace, friendly bar staff and a young crowd. Weekdays are quiet.

One last thing

Lisbon bars rarely open before 17:00–18:00 and stay open until 2:00–4:00, while A Ginjinha opens in the morning and closes at ten. So start the evening with ginjinha by Rossio and finish it in Bairro Alto or Cais do Sodré.
