Best breakfast in Kraków: 9 cafés in Old Town and Kazimierz

· · 6 min read

For breakfast in Kraków you go to one of two places: the Old Town around the Rynek, or Kazimierz, where cafés open at 7:30–8:00. Bread & Butter is from my own list of saved places; the other eight are recommended by travel guides (In Your Pocket, 34travel) and local blogs, and I checked each one on Google: still open, rated 4.4 or higher. The descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews; I haven't added my own notes yet. For lunch and dinner, see where to eat in Kraków.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 11 October 2026. Rate: 1 zł ≈ $0.26.

In short

  • Earliest: Charlotte on Plac Szczepański opens at 7:00, and so does Karma Cafe on Krupnicza on weekdays.
  • Skip the queue: get to NapNap before 9:00; later the wait can be an hour.
  • Buffet: Kolanko No 6 in Kazimierz, 45 zł (≈$12) for all you can eat, with unlimited coffee and tea.
  • Cheap and Polish: Milkbar Tomasza, pancakes and pierogi for 20–40 zł.
  • Vegan: Ranny Ptaszek and Karma Cafe, plant-based all or nearly all the way.
  • All day: Poranki serves breakfast until it closes at 16:30.

Charlotte

Stare Miasto · French bakery & bistro · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Mon–Thu 7:00–0:00, Fri 7:00–1:00, Sat 8:00–1:00, Sun 8:00–22:00
Google Maps · website · plac Szczepański 2

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 13,500+): a bakery-bistro a couple of minutes from the Rynek, baking bread and baguettes to an old French recipe. The big draws are the 7:00 opening and the fresh pastries: reviewers praise the flaky croissants, the pain perdu and the French omelette. The classic breakfast is an egg, a croissant, a bread basket with two spreads and a drink of your choice. Downsides: tables are packed close together, and on a busy morning orders get forgotten.

Camelot Cafe

Stare Miasto · café · 20–60 zł (≈$5–16) · daily 9:00–23:00, Fri–Sat until 0:00
Google Maps · website · Św. Tomasza 17

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 5,300+): an old Kraków café with a vintage, slightly gothic interior and tables outside. For breakfast, reviewers praise the French toast, the flat whites and the iced raspberry tea; later in the day, the camembert baguettes and homemade pastries. It stays open late, so plenty of people come back in the evening for an espresso martini.

Milkbar Tomasza

Stare Miasto · milk bar · 20–40 zł (≈$5–10) · Tue–Sat 8:00–18:00, Sun 9:00–18:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · website · Św. Tomasza 24

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 6,600+): the cheapest Polish breakfast in the centre, with Polish pancakes, pierogi (the fried ones get special praise) and soups. Big portions, honest prices. The room is tiny and a queue builds by lunchtime, so come when it opens, though even then it fills up fast.

NAPNAPCAFE

Stare Miasto · brunch café · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · daily 8:00–16:00
Google Maps · Facebook · Zwierzyniecka 5

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 2,700+): a small brunch café with an inventive menu, huge portions and good coffee; a breakfast here keeps you going until evening. It costs more than its neighbours, and by late morning the queue outside can reach an hour; before 9:00 you usually walk straight in. The ice cream place next door gets good reviews too.

Karma Cafe

Stare Miasto · vegetarian café & roastery · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Wed 7:00–18:00, Thu–Fri 7:00–21:00, Sat 8:00–21:00, Sun 8:00–20:00
Google Maps · Facebook · Krupnicza 12

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 1,300+): a café with its own roastery, and some call its coffee the best in Kraków. Breakfasts are healthy and filling, with vegan options; reviewers praise the chocolate banana bread and the pea-milk latte. Prices are gentle for the area, but plant milk costs extra.

Bread & Butter Breakfast & Brunch Kraków

Kleparz · breakfast & brunch · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Tue–Sat 8:00–14:30, closed Sun–Mon
Google Maps · Facebook · Pędzichów 23

According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 1,600+): a breakfast place north of the Old Town, about 15 minutes' walk from the Rynek. The most ordered dishes are the apple pie pancakes, Turkish eggs and shakshuka; the bread with guacamole gets praise too. You see the menu and order by QR code or at the till, and the kitchen happily adapts dishes for vegetarians. If there's a queue, it's about ten minutes. Open only until 14:30, and not on Sundays or Mondays.

Kazimierz

Poranki - Breakfast, coffee & cake

Kazimierz · breakfast, coffee & cake · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Fri 7:30–16:30, Sat–Sun 8:00–16:30
Google Maps · Instagram · Plac Bawół 4

According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 3,000+): a café on Plac Bawół serving breakfast all day. Portions are big enough that one dish feeds two, and the menu includes low-carb and high-protein options. The staff are welcoming, kids and pushchairs included, and you can sit inside or out. Sometimes you wait for a table. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Ranny Ptaszek

Kazimierz · vegan & vegetarian café · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · Mon–Thu 8:00–15:00, Fri 8:00–15:00 and 18:00–22:00, Sat 9:00–15:00 and 18:00–22:00, Sun 9:00–16:00
Google Maps · website · Augustiańska 5

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 2,500+): a colourful café with vegan and vegetarian comfort food on a quiet corner of Kazimierz. The plates look great and taste as good; there are only a few tables inside, but a big terrace in good weather. It's self-service with a buzzer that beeps when your food is ready, which some find annoying. Menu prices aren't always up to date, so check the bill; the toilet is next door, with the key at the counter.

Kolanko No 6 Restaurant

Kazimierz · restaurant, breakfast buffet · 40–60 zł (≈$10–16) · daily 8:00–22:00, Wed–Sat until 23:00
Google Maps · website · Józefa 17

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 8,800+): in the morning it's a buffet, 45 zł (≈$12) for all you can eat, with unlimited coffee and tea. You can look at the spread before you pay. Plenty of choice, nothing fancy, like a good hotel breakfast. The décor is quirky, down to old dentists' chairs; later in the day it serves Polish classics and pancakes. Early on it's quiet; it fills up towards ten.

One last thing

Most breakfast places in Kraków close by 15:00–16:30, and weekend queues start around ten: go before 9:00, or pick a place open all day, like Charlotte or Camelot. None of these does a classic full English; the most filling option is the Kolanko No 6 buffet.
