Where to eat in Cappadocia: 11 places, Göreme to Ürgüp

· · 7 min read

These are Cappadocia's restaurants, cafés and wine spots from my list of saved places and from travel guides (34travel first of all): from simple home cooking in the rocks above Göreme to dinner with a view and a cave tavern in Ürgüp. I left short notes on a couple of them; the rest is put together from Google Maps reviews. Later I added Topdeck Cave in Göreme on the advice of travel guides, and moved cafés and bars with a view into their own article.

Prices are Google's average spend per person; valid as of 7 October 2026. Rate: 100 ₺ ≈ $2.03, 1 € ≈ $1.12.

In short

  • Eat cheaply: Nazar Borek & Cafe, a family café in the rocks above Göreme, 400–600 ₺ (≈$8–12); closed Mondays.
  • Dinner with a view: Seten in Göreme (no bookings — come before 8 pm) or Lil'a in Uçhisar.
  • Dinner and a show: testi kebap at Pumpkin, where the flaming pot is broken at your table; evenings only.
  • Local wine: a tasting at Kocabağ in Uçhisar or a glass at Red Red Wine House in Göreme.
  • In a cave: Barbarian Medieval Tavern in Ürgüp, best booked ahead; in Göreme, Topdeck Cave and its meze platter.

Göreme

Nazar Borek & Cafe

Göreme, Aydınlı · family café, Turkish home cooking · 400–600 ₺ (≈$8–12) · Tue–Sun 12:00–22:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · Karamızrak Sk.

Tasty and on the cheaper side. According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 1,500+): a family café set right in old rock chimneys with a view over Göreme — lentil soup, köfte, bread fresh from the oven, freshly squeezed juice and vegetables from their own garden. The owners speak good English and happily tell their story. The menu is short and the entrance is hidden behind a rock: Google's walking route takes you through Pigeon Valley, so look for an old sign and a flight of steps.

Seten Restaurant Cappadocia

Göreme, Aydınlı · Anatolian cuisine, terrace restaurant · from 2,000 ₺ (≈$41+) · daily 12:30–22:30
Google Maps · website · Çakmaklı Sk., 35

Tasty, but pricier. According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 4,900+): a restaurant on the slope above Göreme with a panoramic terrace that's at its best at sunset. Traditional Anatolian dishes, carefully plated: people praise the slow-cooked beef and the chicken; guests mention the Michelin guide and about 40 € (≈$45) a head without wine. They don't take bookings, so come early, before 8 pm; the way up is a little confusing.

Sedef

Göreme, centre · Turkish and Cappadocian cuisine · 800–1,800 ₺ (≈$16–37) · daily 9:30–1:00
Google Maps · website · Bilal Eroğlu Cd., 3

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 10,000+): a big restaurant in the centre with a huge menu, from steaks, pasta and burgers to local dishes. Reviewers praise the lamb clay pot, the Adana kebab and mushrooms with cheese, and the starters come free. The staff are attentive — they take allergies seriously, for example. The downside: no view, it's in the middle of town. Open until 1 am.

Göreme Restaurant

Göreme, Müze Cd. · Turkish cuisine · 600–1,200 ₺ (≈$12–24) · daily 10:00–23:30
Google Maps · Müze Cd., 12

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 680+): a cosy restaurant where you can sit on floor cushions. Meals start with warm bread and a homemade red-pepper dip; people praise the lentil soup, chicken kebab, testi kebap and mantı, and there's plenty for vegetarians plus mulled wine. Guests say the prices are honest for Cappadocia. The downside: the lamb portion felt small for the money.

Red Red Wine House

Göreme, Müze Cd. · wine bar and restaurant · 400–1,400 ₺ (≈$8–29) · daily 10:00–0:00
Google Maps · Müze Cd., 12/B

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 530+): a cosy wine house next door to Göreme Restaurant — a lovely interior, tastings of local wine with snacks, mulled wine and home-style food. It's easy to stay for hours. The downside: one guest called it a tourist trap — the mantı were cold and nearly empty, and the dishes seemed to be sitting ready in the kitchen.

Göreme, İsali · Turkish cuisine, dinner only · 800–1,800 ₺ (≈$16–37) · daily 18:00–23:00
Google Maps · İçeridere Sk., 21/A

According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 920+): a small family restaurant down a side street, open evenings only. The big show is the testi kebap: the owner brings out a flaming clay pot and cracks it open at the table. People also praise the mantı, stuffed squash, baklava and goat's-milk ice cream; there's a set menu with salad, soup and dessert. For many it's the best dinner in Göreme; cats wander the room.

Topdeck Cave

Göreme, Aydınlı · cave restaurant, Turkish food · 600–1,600 ₺ (≈$12–33) · 17:00–23:30, closed Tue
Google Maps · Facebook · Hafız Abdullah Efendi Sk. 15

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 2,000+): a family restaurant in a cave with an old fireplace, with floor cushions or ordinary tables. Reviewers praise the seven-meze platter, lamb slow-cooked in the oven for hours, mantı, beef testi kebap and baklava; prices are called reasonable and the waiters attentive. The reviews have no real complaints, but it's dinner only.

Uçhisar

Lil'a by Museum Hotel

Uçhisar · hotel restaurant, fine dining · daily 11:00–22:00
Google Maps · website · Göreme Cd., 1

An expensive restaurant. According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 690): the Museum Hotel's restaurant, with views — the best seats are on the terrace by the pool. Local, farm-to-table cooking: people praise the lamb chops, beef cheek, local wines and the chocolate soufflé. The downsides: not every waiter knows the menu, the dining room is dim, and wine costs more than elsewhere.

Kocabag Wines

Uçhisar · winery and tasting room · tasting 400–600 ₺ (≈$8–12) · daily 9:00–19:30
Google Maps · website · Adnan Menderes Cd., 40

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 760+): a family winery for trying local grapes — floral wines with notes of cherry and plum; bottles run about 200–800 ₺ (≈$4–16). An easy stop after a Pigeon Valley walk. The downside: one guest writes that they offer an extra glass in return for a five-star review, and the pours are tiny. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Ürgüp

Barbarian Medieval Tavern

Ürgüp · cave tavern, meat from the oven · from 2,000 ₺ (≈$41+) · Mon–Fri 13:00–0:00, Sat–Sun 12:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · Bey Sk., 4

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 2,200+): a medieval-themed tavern — big platters of oven-roasted meat and vegetables, forged cutlery, nest-like seating designed by the architect owner. The lower hall is in an ancient cave with a fireplace; after dinner the owner sometimes shows guests his collection of old weapons and a tunnel. The hall can be full in the evening, so book.

Ziggy Cafe & Shoppe

Ürgüp, Tevfik Fikret Cd. · café-restaurant with a roof terrace and shop · daily 12:00–23:30
Google Maps · website · Tevfik Fikret Cd., 24

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 670+): a cosy café full of character, with an airy rooftop terrace. People praise the lunchtime meze set — aubergine, garlic yoghurt, the house sauce and crisp pastries with pastırma and cheese — as well as the steak and local wine; in winter you can sit by the fire. The shop sells work by local craftspeople rather than souvenir junk.

One last thing

Seten takes no bookings, so come before 20:00; Barbarian, on the other hand, is worth booking ahead. Nazar Borek is closed on Mondays, and Pumpkin and Topdeck Cave only open in the evening, so they won't work for lunch; Topdeck is also closed on Tuesdays.
