My list of saved places in Rotterdam had two cafés — Hopper and FiveFiveFive; they used to sit in the food article and have moved here. I added the other five on the advice of city guides and specialty-coffee guides, and checked each on Google: still open, rated 4.2 or higher. I haven't written my own notes yet, so the descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 7 October 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.12.
In short
- Breakfast with a laptop: Hopper on the Schiedamse Vest — house sourdough and an upstairs.
- The city's famous pie: apple pie at Dudok — ask for it warm; open every day until 23:00.
- Coffee with a cause: Heilige Boontjes by Eendrachtsplein metro — a social enterprise giving young people a second chance.
- Indonesian coffee: kopi susu with condensed milk at Kopi Soesoe in Katendrecht, near the FENIX museum.
- Mondays: Hopper and FiveFiveFive are closed, and Kopi Soesoe on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Centre
Hopper Coffee Rotterdam
Centrum · roastery café and breakfast · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Tue–Fri 8:30–17:30, Sat–Sun 9:30–17:30, closed Mon
Google Maps · website · Schiedamse Vest 146
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 780+): a popular breakfast spot with high ceilings and an upstairs — house sourdough, bruschetta, pastries, cakes and fresh orange juice. Plenty of people work on laptops here, and it suits that well. Downsides: it's not cheap, and in one review an order of two coffees was simply forgotten.
FiveFiveFive – Coffee Cycling Culture
Centrum · café and bike shop · under 10 € (≈$11) · Tue–Thu 9:30–22:00, Fri–Sun 9:30–17:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · website · Hartmansstraat 24A
According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 300+): a café for cycling fans — and for anyone who simply likes coffee. The owner knows his beans, and you can buy coffee to take home; reviewers rave about the cold coffee, the affogato, the coffee shake with chocolate ice cream and the pastries.
Dudok
Centrum · café-brasserie · 10–20 € (≈$11–22) · daily 9:00–23:00
Google Maps · website · Meent 88
According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 5,900+): a big café on the Meent, famous for its apple pie — reviewers say to order it warm, with whipped cream (which costs extra). Beyond the pie it does breakfast and lunch: the soups, club sandwich, sticky chicken and loaded fries get praise, and there's a terrace. Downsides: it's pricey, and one guest found the eggs with salmon and hollandaise bland.
Heilige Boontjes
Eendrachtsplein · social-enterprise café · 10–20 € (≈$11–22) · Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00, Sat–Sun 10:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · Eendrachtsplein 3
According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 1,300+): a spacious café right by the metro exit that trains and employs young people who need a second chance — your coffee money helps them. Reviewers praise the coffee, the open kitchen, the coffee-and-cake deal and the menu written in Rotterdam slang. Downsides: some staff are trainees, so mix-ups and forgotten tables happen, and one guest was charged for a big glass of iced water.
Nieuwe Binnenweg
30ml Nieuwe Binnenweg
Nieuwe Binnenweg · café and breakfast · 10–20 € (≈$11–22) · daily 9:00–17:00
Google Maps · website · Nieuwe Binnenweg 105a
According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 330+): a café from a small local chain that roasts its own coffee; one guest called the flat white the best they'd had in the Netherlands. For breakfast, reviewers praise the eggs Benedict with salmon, pancakes with mango coulis and a tuna melt, and the fruit-infused water is free. Downsides: it's busy at weekends, and the staff can be a little curt.
Urban Espresso Bar
Middelland · café and lunch · under 10 € (≈$11) · Mon–Sat 8:30–18:00, Sun 10:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · Nieuwe Binnenweg 263
According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 480+): a café on the Nieuwe Binnenweg where people sit with books and laptops (except at weekends and on the Friday terrace). Reviewers praise the cakes, the inventive lunches, the sweet-potato toast and the house ketchup. Downsides: several guests find the coffee only average, and one regular complains about cold, unwelcoming staff.
Katendrecht
Kopi Soesoe
Katendrecht · Indonesian coffee bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–22) · Wed–Fri 8:30–16:30, Sat–Sun 8:30–17:30, closed Mon–Tue
Google Maps · website · Sumatraweg 15
According to Google Maps reviews (4.7 from 660+): a small café on a quiet, tree-lined square, run by an owner with Indonesian roots. The thing to order is kopi susu, coffee with condensed milk (ask for less if you don't like it sweet); reviewers also love the homemade cakes, cheesecake, olive bread, jackfruit sandwich and ginger tea. Downside: some find the cakes too sweet.
One last thing
Katendrecht makes an easy combination: coffee at Kopi Soesoe in the morning, then the FENIX museum a five-minute walk away. Just remember the café is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and FENIX on Mondays, so go any day from Wednesday to Sunday.
