Hong Kong bars and coffee: 12 places in Central and Kowloon

· · 8 min read

By day Hong Kong drinks coffee in the lanes off Hollywood Road; at night it heads to Central, for cocktail bars on the world rankings or the noisy streets of Lan Kwai Fong. Draft Land and Lan Kwai Fong come from my list of saved places, with my short notes. The other ten (the coffee shops Halfway Coffee, NOC, Urban Coffee Roaster and % Arabica, and the bars The Old Man, Bar Leone, COA, Quinary, The Globe and OZONE) I added on the advice of travel guides (34travel, Time Out and others); their descriptions, like the rest, are put together from Google Maps reviews.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 1 October 2026. Rate: 1 HK$ ≈ $0.13.

In short

  • Coffee in the old town: Halfway Coffee in the Upper Lascar Row antiques lane off Hollywood Road, served in antique Chinese porcelain cups.
  • A light brunch: NOC in Sai Ying Pun, with bowls and toast when you need a break from heavy food.
  • Coffee in Kowloon: Urban Coffee Roaster in Tsim Sha Tsui, and a Kyoto latte from % Arabica to take on the Star Ferry.
  • To party: Lan Kwai Fong, lanes packed with bars and clubs; for cocktails on tap, Draft Land.
  • Cocktails: The Old Man, Bar Leone, COA and Quinary in Central. Expect a queue at all of them.
  • Beer and a view: the British pub The Globe in Soho, and the harbour from the 118th floor at OZONE (500 HK$ minimum by the window).

Coffee

Halfway Coffee

Tai Ping Shan · coffee shop · 50–100 HK$ (≈$6–13) · daily 8:00–18:00
Google Maps · Instagram · 26 Upper Lascar Row

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 1,400+): a coffee shop in the antiques lane of Upper Lascar Row off Hollywood Road, serving coffee in vintage Chinese porcelain cups. Reviewers praise the cappuccino, latte and flat white, and it opens at 8:00, earlier than most. It's always busy and the food menu is short. Time Out recommends it too (review).

NOC (Sai Ying Pun)

Sai Ying Pun · coffee and brunch · 50–200 HK$ (≈$6–26) · daily 8:00–18:00
Google Maps · website · 321 Des Voeux Rd W

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 890+): a local coffee chain with good coffee and light food (bowls, salmon and avocado toast, yoghurt with berries) for when you need a break from rich food. The downsides: complaints about unfriendly service and a 10% service charge.

Urban Coffee Roaster (Tsim Sha Tsui)

Tsim Sha Tsui · coffee shop & brunch · 50–100 HK$ (≈$6–13) · daily 8:00–19:00
Google Maps · website · 7 Bristol Ave

According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 1,400+): a serious coffee place in the middle of touristy Tsim Sha Tsui, where everything revolves around the coffee. They roast their own beans and serve filter in a two-way cup, plus a brunch menu with big portions. It's small inside and out, and the outdoor seats are for smokers; at lunch you'll queue for a table, so takeaway is easier. Prices are above average. Time Out recommends it too (article): readers voted it their favourite café of 2026.

% Arabica

Tsim Sha Tsui, Star Ferry · coffee kiosk · up to 50 HK$ (≈$6) · daily 9:00–19:00
Google Maps · website · Star Ferry Pier, 1/F

According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 540+): a small kiosk of the Japanese chain on the upper floor of the Star Ferry pier, right by the ferry gates and looking over Victoria Harbour. People grab a coffee to take across on the ferry; the Kyoto latte with condensed milk gets the most praise. There's hardly any seating, the staff are strict about not moving the tables, and one reviewer found the flat white too milky.

Bars

Draft Land HK

Central · cocktail bar · 100–150 HK$ (≈$13–19) · Sun–Wed 17:00–0:00, Thu–Sat 17:00–2:00
Google Maps · Instagram · 63 Wyndham St

For a beer. According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 230+): a bar with cocktails on tap at 100–150 HK$; reviewers like the oolong tea Collins and the nitro coffee martini. Seating is high stools only; after 19:00 many end up standing outside, and by 21:00 it's full. The downsides: many find the cocktails weak, and service can be careless.

Lan Kwai Fong

Central · street of bars and clubs · open 24 hours
Google Maps · website · Lan Kwai Fong

Nightlife. According to Google Maps reviews (4.2 from 10,000+): steep, narrow lanes packed with pubs, bars and clubs, all within walking distance of each other. By day it's just a quiet lane; it comes alive after 21:30, especially Thursday to Saturday. Some of the side streets are shabby.

The Old Man

Soho, Central · cocktail bar · 100–300 HK$ (≈$13–38) · Sun–Wed 17:00–1:00, Thu–Sat 17:00–2:00
Google Maps · Instagram · 37–39 Aberdeen St

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 900+): a speakeasy in a Soho alley with Hemingway-inspired cocktails, each with its own story and an unusual garnish. Reviewers like the Father and Son (a twist on an old fashioned), the herbal Like-Minded Creatures and the friendly bartenders. It's cramped: on a Friday a group may get only a standing corner, and not every drink lands. Locals Insider recommends it (guide).

Bar Leone

Central · cocktail bar · Mon–Thu & Sun 17:00–0:00, Fri–Sat 15:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · 11–15 Bridges St

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 800+): an Italian cocktail bar that reviewers note was named the world's best bar in 2025. They praise the balanced cocktails, the warm service and the food, especially the smoked olives and the mortadella focaccia. There are no bookings: a queue forms before opening, the wait can be an hour and a half, and some guests end up drinking standing.

COA

Central · tequila and mezcal bar · 100–300 HK$ (≈$13–38) · Tue–Sun 18:00–0:00, Fri–Sat until 1:00, closed Mon
Google Maps · website · 6–10 Shin Hing St

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 700+): an agave cocktail bar (tequila and mezcal) with Mexican-inspired interiors. Reviewers single out bitter and spicy drinks such as the bitter melon collins and the bloody beef maria, plus the vibe and the staff. No bookings: queue before opening or before dinner. The music is loud.

Quinary

Central · cocktail bar · 150–400 HK$ (≈$20–50) · Mon–Sat 17:00–1:00, Sun 17:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · 56–58 Hollywood Rd

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,000+): a cocktail bar on Hollywood Road that made Asia's 50 Best Bars in 2025. The signature is the Earl Grey caviar martini, which nearly every table orders; reviewers also rate the lavender meringue pie cocktail, the bartenders who help you choose, and the bar snacks. There can be a queue, but it moves fast, and around 21:00 it's often quiet. The signatures aren't to everyone's taste. Time Out recommends it too (article).

The Globe

Soho, Central · British gastropub · 100–400 HK$ (≈$13–50) · daily from 10:00, Fri–Sat until 2:00
Google Maps · website · 45–53A Graham St

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 1,500+): a roomy British pub with a big beer list, on tap and in bottles, and homemade pies and chips, with some vegetarian options too. Staff stay attentive even when it's packed, and it gets loud on rugby nights. The downsides: the Sunday roast gets panned (it's a steak, not roast beef), and the fries can be greasy. Time Out recommends it too (article).

OZONE | The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

West Kowloon, ICC · bar on the 118th floor · from 500 HK$ (≈$65) · Mon–Fri 16:00–1:00, Sat 14:00–1:00, Sun 12:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · 118/F, ICC, 1 Austin Rd W

According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 1,800+): a bar on the 118th floor of the ICC tower, in the Ritz-Carlton, where you come for the harbour view, ideally at sunset. Cocktails at about 200 HK$ (≈$25) are well made but nothing special, and the snacks are simple; there's a DJ and live music in the evenings. Terrace and window tables carry a 500 HK$ (≈$65) per person minimum. Some find the décor, with its fake plants, dated.

One last thing

The coffee shops close early (Halfway Coffee and NOC at 18:00), so have coffee by day; the bars only open in the evening. At Bar Leone and COA turn up at opening time (17:00 and 18:00): there are no bookings and the queue forms early. COA is closed on Mondays, while The Old Man and Draft Land stay open until 2:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Go up to OZONE for sunset, and if you need coffee later in the day, Urban Coffee Roaster is open until 19:00.
