Bars and cafés in Berlin: 7 places from craft beer to brunch

· · 5 min read

Berlin drinks its beer in craft bars, beer gardens and on top of car parks, and you can have breakfast here even at midnight. This part of my Berlin guide is about bars and cafés. A craft beer bar in Kreuzberg, cocktails near Ostkreuz and a bike café in Mitte come from my own saved list; Prater, Klunkerkranich, Hopfenreich and Schwarzes Cafe I added from 34travel's Berlin guide and neighbourhood guide, and checked every one on Google: still open, rated 4.2 or higher. I haven't written my own notes yet, so all the descriptions are put together from Google Maps reviews.

Prices are Google's average spend per person, valid as of 7 October 2026. Rate: 1 € ≈ $1.12.

In short

  • Beer: 20 craft taps at Biererei on Oranienstraße, Berlin craft at Hopfenreich by Schlesisches Tor, and in summer Prater, the city's oldest beer garden.
  • Sunset over the city: Klunkerkranich, on top of a car park in Neukölln, 5 € (≈$6) to get in.
  • Cocktails: Krass Böser Wolf near Ostkreuz, with fair prices and table football, open till 3 am at weekends.
  • Breakfast any time: Schwarzes Cafe by Savignyplatz, open from morning to 3 am; the Kaiserschmarrn gets the praise.
  • Before a walk to the Brandenburger Tor: Steel Vintage Bikes Café in Mitte, brunch among vintage bikes.

Where to drink

Biererei Bar & Vintage Cellar

Kreuzberg · craft beer bar & bottle shop · 10–30 € (≈$11–34) · Mon–Wed 16:00–0:00, Thu until 1:00, Fri until 2:00, Sat 14:00–2:00, Sun 14:00–0:00
Google Maps · Facebook · Oranienstraße 185

According to Google Maps reviews (4.8 from 1,300+): one of Berlin's best craft beer bars — 20 taps, from pilsner and IPA to sours and imperial stouts, plus a cold room of rare cans and bottles, many from the US. The staff know their stuff and let you taste before you buy. The downside: rare cans cost 15–22 € each. About a 10-minute walk from Moritzplatz U-Bahn.

Krass Böser Wolf

Friedrichshain · cocktail bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Thu 18:00–1:00, Fri–Sat until 3:00, Sun until 0:00
Google Maps · website · Markgrafendamm 37

According to Google Maps reviews (4.6 from 1,100+): a low-lit bar near Ostkreuz with creative cocktails, shots, table football and outdoor seats. Reviewers praise the friendly bartenders and fair prices. The downside: the cocktail list is short, and its ingredients won't suit everyone. Open until 3 am at weekends.

Hopfenreich

Kreuzberg · craft beer bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–22) · Mon–Thu 17:00–23:00, Fri–Sat 17:00–1:00, Sun 17:00–22:00
Google Maps · website · Sorauer Str. 31

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 2,200+): a small, cosy bar near Schlesisches Tor with a long list of craft beer on tap, Berlin breweries included. The bar staff explain the styles in English and let you taste; visitors from the UK and Scandinavia find the prices low. A good place for long chats over beer. Downside: regulars say the toilets are very Berlin — in other words, not great.

Prater Beer Garden

Prenzlauer Berg · beer garden · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · daily 12:00–23:30, garden open in the warm season
Google Maps · website · Kastanienallee 7–9

According to Google Maps reviews (4.3 from 6,500+): Berlin's oldest beer garden — 600 seats under chestnut trees, self-service and local beer, with the wheat beer especially praised. To go with it: bratwurst and sauerkraut, roast chicken and excellent pretzels. The queues move fast. Downsides: reviewers pan the Spätzle, and one guest complained of tiny portions. In the cold months the garden is closed and the indoor restaurant takes over. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Klunkerkranich

Neukölln · rooftop bar · 5 € (≈$6) entry · Mon–Wed 17:00–0:00, Thu 16:00–2:00, Fri–Sat 16:00–3:00, Sun 16:00–0:00
Google Maps · website · Karl-Marx-Straße 66

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 8,700+): a bar and cultural space knocked together from whatever came to hand on the roof of a shopping-centre car park — three areas, a dance floor, lots of beers and simple vegan food at normal bar prices. People come for sunset over the city. Getting there is a mission: a lift from the mall to the car park, then up a ramp on foot. Downsides: there's an entry fee, bees can be a nuisance in summer, and not everyone was wowed by the view. 34travel recommends it too (article).

Breakfast and coffee

Steel Vintage Bikes Café

Mitte · brunch café · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · Mon–Thu 9:00–16:00, Fri–Sun 9:00–17:00
Google Maps · website · Wilhelmstraße 91

According to Google Maps reviews (4.5 from 4,100+): a café inside a vintage bicycle shop, with bikes all over the interior. Reviewers praise the presentation, the avocado with salmon and the gluten-free options; you order by QR code at the table and food comes quickly. Dogs are welcome, and you can usually get a table without booking. The downside: it's on the pricey side. Handy for breakfast before walking to the Brandenburger Tor.

Schwarzes Cafe

Charlottenburg · all-day café & bar · 10–20 € (≈$11–23) · daily 8:00–3:00, Tue from 10:00
Google Maps · website · Kantstraße 148

According to Google Maps reviews (4.4 from 6,100+): a legendary café near Savignyplatz where you can have breakfast at midnight — it's open from morning until 3 am. Pictures on the walls, a courtyard, an English menu and big portions; the Kaiserschmarrn gets special praise. Downsides: it's nearly always full, and in the evening so loud that conversation is hard. 34travel recommends it too (article).

One last thing

Prater only runs as a beer garden in the warm season; in the cold months just the restaurant inside is open. Go up to Klunkerkranich for sunset, and if you want breakfast after the bar, Schwarzes Cafe is open till 3 am.
